Looking West at Stuart East

To the top

Approaching over Johns Island, a diagonal cut, below the picture, once was a runway, and is now a youth camp. The waterway on the left is Reid Harbor, and the one beyond Stuart East airport is Prevost Harbor. At the far end of Prevost Harbor is a small cleared patch. That's Stuart West airport, a one-way uphill from the water.

Stuart East landing to the East (a little high on final). Prevost Harbor is at the bottom of the photo, Johns Pass at the top, with Johns Island just visible at the top.

Stuart east and west are private airports, used by residents and those with prior permission. Also, Washington Pilots Assn has a cabin for use of its members.

Stuart has about three dozen full-time residents, and has a lot of summer boat activity in its two great moorage areas. It is a primitive island, by design, with no electricity, phones, etc. There are no public parks or other public areas.
